A toilet flange that s been leaking can cause the floor to rot the flange to loosen and the leak to get worse.

1 turn off the toilet valve and flush the toilet to drain the tank.
Alternately fill a five gallon bucket with water then.
Step 2 if you have a 2 piece toilet tank and bowl separate unscrew the water line from the wall then remove the bolts from the tank.
Sponge the water in the bottom of the tank into the bowl then disconnect the supply hose.

You want to make sure that you get the new seal on correctly before you reattach the toilet.
